Infiniti’s 2017 Engineering Academy offers Formula One placement

At the Autosport International Show Infiniti has announced a 2017 Engineering Academy with director of Infiniti Global Motorsport, Tommaso Volpe and managing director of the Renault Sport Formula One Team, Cyril Abiteboul.

Seven world class engineering students will get the opportunity for a life-changing career for the competitions fourth consecutive year running. The close working relationship between Infiniti and the Renault Sport Formula One™ Team gives the students a chance to learn from the leading engineers within each company.

All three previous winners of the Engineering Academy were present at the event and lend proof to the success of the academy. 2014 winner William Priest has gone on to work full time at Infiniti while 2015 winner Daniel Sanham has just signed a full time contract with the Renault Sport Formula One™ Team. Caitlin Bunt won in 2016 and is currently in the midst of a 12 month stint with both companies.

Thanks to our close Technical Partnership with the Renault Sport Formula One Team, we can offer seven engineers from all over the world a truly technically rich, multi-discipline and multi-cultural engineering placement,” said Volpe. “We are really proud to see this project growing year after year and our past Academy Engineers being so successful in their careers. The level of interest we are receiving from students all over the world is absolutely fantastic, so of course we are delighted to launch the fourth edition of this truly unique program today.

One unique aspect that the Engineering Academy affords winners is the chance to explore the different technologies utilised in road car’s and Formula One race car projects. The experience gained from both fields is sure to provide a serious career boost to each of the seven potential winners.

Infiniti brings two key elements to the Renault Sport Formula One Team: expertise in the Energy Recovery Systems (ERS) through Performance Hybrid technology and an international diversity of young, fresh thinking engineering talent, thanks to the Academy,” said Abiteboul. “These globally sourced students not only bring fresh perspectives to the team but also the latest learnings from road car hybrid technology, of which Infinti is a pioneer.

Each of the final seven winners will be pulled from the seven global regions which are: Asia & Oceania, Canada, China, Europe, Mexico, Middle East and the United States.

With Formula One more relevant to the automotive industry than ever and our Academy engineers at the cutting edge of both automotive and motorsport engineering, we are perfectly placed to explore, understand and encourage the crossover of technology between our two companies and disciplines,” said Volpe.
